Summer is finally here!

We have waited 6 months for this.  It is now officially the first weekend of the summer.  It is Memorial Day weekend.  Our big plans for the weekend?  We will be in a parade tomorrow-yuck and double yuck, I hate them-and then…..lots and lots of nothing.  I am looking forward to it.  We may do some projects around the house, as there are many of them waiting to be completed, but overall, nooothhhiiiinnnngggg.

Maybe we will sit in the river.  We bring lawn chairs out to the river and plant them, keeping our butts just above the water and our feet in it.  A few cool ones nearby, and we just sit there.  We can watch the birds, wave to any canoeists who paddle by, or fishing people who are trying their luck on the opposite bank.  It is tiring work, but someone has to do it.

Then there is the option to sit on the deck.  A few cool ones nearby, we can watch the birds, the squirrels, the rabbits, and just sit there, listening to the water in the fountain making its water sound.

The third option is to sit on the front porch.  It is cooler there, as it is on the north side, in the shade.  A few cool ones nearby, we can watch the birds, the kids down the street, the cars that go by, the joggers and dog walkers on the street.  There is a cul-de-sac just past our house, so we will see them twice, before and after they turn around at the end of the street.  Again-we are willing to take on this arduous task.

If I had my way, I could do this most of the summer.  I suppose that if I needed a change of pace, I could read a book while sitting in the river, on the deck, or out on the front porch.  And there is a possibility of listening to music instead of the birds.  We’ll see.  The choices are difficult. And, of course, taking a nap on the front porch is always an ultimate treat.

With all of the options for the weekend, I can hardly contain my excitement.

AAAHHHHH! Summer.

  1. Ah, tranquility. And you’ve painted such a wonderful picture about the chairs in the river, I now want to join you so I’m off to find myself a river.

  2. Sounds good. Here, if you were to plop down in a river, your lower half would be invisible through the muddy water, the mosquitoes would eat you alive, and you would have to ward off the occasional snake that would happily swim up to your chair…..

    Have a great weekend!

  3. I love summer too. The mosquitoes… not so much.

  4. Sounds lovely: we’ve just had our three days of summer!
