Today is earth day. I remember the first one, back in 1970. At that time, it was just a bunch of hippies who had a crazy idea that the earth was worth a day of honor. To be honest, they were seen as a bit peculiar. No one realized then what was happening to the earth as a result of mankind’s rapid growth.
Now, it seems that in the US, anyway, it is becoming a mainstream concept to “go green”. There are more businesses which are supporting earth day celebrations. Trees are being planted, those in power are paying homage to our precious and beautiful world. I am a cynic, however, and don’t believe for a moment that this is anything more than marketing and politics. Our society will honor the earth when it is profitable to do so, or imminently necessary for survival. Not before.
My daughter found amazing photos of the earth, taken by the International Space Station. Click on this link and take a few minutes to see the beauty of our Mother Earth.
It is unbelievably beautiful. Until the world can fully appreciate this awe-inspiring place that we live, there won’t be any serious attempts to curb the damage being done by humans.
Happy Earth Day!
Unfortunately your right. If there isn’t money in it, it ain’t gonna happen.

I am very much a cynic of the corporate embracing of environmentalisssm. It seems like only token efforts.
