Recently I discovered an awesome website. I have been sharing it with nearly everyone. It is a great idea, and it has worked out very well for me. I have decided that I should share it with all of you, too.
The website is www.postandpaint.com .
Here is how it works:
1. You take a wonderful photo. It could be of a loved one, a beautiful scene, or just a crazy photo that you love.
2. You post that photo on the website.
3. An artist sees the photo and decides to paint it, either based on preferences you have listed (such as the size, what type of paint or other materials, and desired price range), or based on their own judgment;
4. The artist posts a photo of the painting or drawing with their price and you can decide whether or not you want to purchase it-you have the right of first refusal;
5. If you don’t purchase it, anyone can choose to purchase it.
I heard about it in a newspaper article, and was intrigued. Husband has always wanted an original oil painting of Glacier National Park.
We vacationed in Glacier this past summer, and he took many, many photos. We had been going through the photos one day, and he had mentioned to me that one of the photos was his favorite.
Bingo!
After verifying his favorite with him-in a very non-suspicious way, of course-I posted the photo on the website. It is #1050 if you look on the site.
Two artists have now painted the photo. I have purchased the second version for Husband as a Christmas gift. Well, actually, it is more of a birthday, Christmas, anniversary, Fourth of July, Columbus Day, Labor Day for the past 30 years gift. We have rarely exchanged gifts, as we always have focused on giving gifts to our children and grandchildren. This covers a lot of years. I spent more than I had originally planned.
This painting is exactly what he has always wanted. He loves paintings that look like a photo. My taste is a bit different, but I think he is going to love this.
Now I just have to keep it a secret for the next six weeks. It is going to kill me. I am very excited about giving him a totally unexpected gift that he will love. My daughter’s comment was that “He might cry when he sees it.” I’m really okay with that. Generally, he is not an easy person to please when it comes to gifts. I hope I got it exactly right this time.
Hopefully, I am not blowing it all by posting this. Don’t tell him! I want it to be a surprise.
It might make up for the jelly beans-which he still hasn’t noticed by the way.
I’ve just spent some time on the site. This is really interesting. Your painting is beautiful. Husband will be thrilled!

There is the first version still available. I was not thrilled with that one, but anyone can now purchase it.

What a neat idea. He never reads your posts??
In my family, a gift giving that doesn’t involve tears is a failure. Get the tissues handy.

I like that standard for gift exchange, but that would be a lot of pressure! And no, I don’t think he reads them-guess I am counting on that.

What a great idea….speaking as an artist. I’m always surprised when I paint one of my photos, and the painted image says way more than the photo. Soon….I’ll paint again.
If I haven’t told you lately, I really appreciate your journaling.

Thank you! I am so jealous of those who have an artistic talent. I have none. What a gift you have.

I love it too. I would get paintings for everyone if I could afford it.
