In which you learn that I am really NOT a good sport

A few days ago, I was presented with an award for this blog.

http://redriverpak.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/kreativbloggeraward.jpg

It has been too long, but I am finally getting around to following up with that. It requires that I list 10 things you don’t know about me and then send the award on to ten other bloggers. The blog version of a chain letter.

Ten things about me? I’ll be honest here:

1. I don’t like chain letters. It doesn’t matter if they have recipes, poems, or funny pictures, I don’t send them on to anyone else. I usually throw them away. But okay, I am a good sport, so I will list 9 more things you may not know about me.

2. I still have not decided whether or not to send this on to any other bloggers. If I do, and you do not want to join in-well, I can’t speak for anyone else, but I won’t be offended.

3. The Mississippi River flows right behind my house. It is pretty shallow and rocky here, but I still love it.

4, I am OCD on a few things. I always make sure that the paper bills go into my wallet in denomination order-ones, fives, tens, twenties…..okay, let’s be honest, they never go any higher than that! I also make sure that they are face up and right side up.

5. Other than those few things about which I am very particular, overall I am generally pretty messy. Even so, I know where things are. If you saw my desk and asked for a specific sheet of paper, I could get it for you right away. An orderly mess, I like to think. It drove my mother crazy when I was a kid and my bedroom was a disaster but I could find anything she asked.

6. I will not eat mushrooms. Yuck!  I am like a little kid-I pick them out and place them to the side of the plate. The thought of eating fungus is disgusting to me, and I am old enough that I don’t have to eat things that disgust me.

7. I have absolutely no creative talent. I can’t draw, paint- nothing. It takes me about 4 tries to get the paint color right when I am painting a room. I think there are at least 4 layers of varying shades of brown on our house trim. I know the right one when I finally find it, though.

8. For some reason, people choose to tell me their life story. I don’t know what it is about me.  I really don’t want to know. I am not particularly comfortable around people, especially until I get to know someone well. I hate parties, I am not happy in a big crowd. I would rather stand to the side and watch what is happening. I would be perfectly happy as a hermit.

9. I have a great memory for telephone numbers. I can’ remember our family phone number from when I was 8 years old. I know most of the other phone numbers that I had throughout my life. However, I have a very hard time remembering someone’s name, even if I just met them. Maybe they should just tell me their phone number rather than their name!

10. I am an HGTV addict. I love the show House Hunters. I am a voyeur and really enjoy seeing the inside of other people’s houses. It makes me feel better about mine. I really love the International House Hunters show, to see what my money might buy for housing in Australia, Costa Rica, or Paris. I have decided that I want to be the realtor who takes foreigners around to find the houses. It would seem to be a great way to be in another country but have a way to earn some income.

Now I am supposed to pass this along to ten other bloggers. I am not sure what I should do with this.

Look, I am a crank. Crotchety. Often downright disagreeable. Some of you who have read this blog more than once realize that I don’t make a fool of myself if I can avoid it. I will never be described as bubbly, fun-loving, or-Godforbid-perky. (I just gave you another thing to add to the list of ten things about me.) For some reason it just feels weird to send this thing on to ten other people.

I will never receive another one of these things, I know, but I just feel too uncomfortable sending this along when I never send chain letters along to anyone.

My intent is not to offend anyone. If you would enjoy playing this game, just let me know, and I will very happily send this along to you. I would even send it on to more than ten others if there were that many who were interested.

But my part of this is done now.

Sorry.

  1. I used to do these, but basically the whole point of a blog is telling things that people don’t know about you.

But the chain letter thing reminded me of a post I did in my first few months of blogging, in 2006:
    http://deepergroundblog11.blogspot.com/2006/08/please-dont-break-this-chain.html

    • I suppose that a list is somewhat easier to read than many months of postings!

  2. The chain letter analogy made me giggle. 🙂

But I’m glad you posted this … I see we have some things in common (4, 8, and 9). And for the record? I like crotchety. 😉

    • Interesting to know we have those things in common! Do you also use the smaller bills first to avoid breaking a big ones?

      • Yes! Hahaha Too funny. 🙂

  3. I think you did great! And none of us believe you are “Crotchety”…..at least those of us that have met you…… Even if you were, like Fae said, that would be cool….. maybe we all could start a Crotchety Bloggers Society….. 🙂

    • Thank you. I have been feeling particularly crotchety the past few weeks……even those who know me would probably agree! I’ll head up the club/support group.

  4. I to am crotchety and disagreeable at times, and i think its great to be like that at times, but when your older your allowed to.

I think the awards are a sign of how much people like your blog, and now that you said you don’t want them, you will get more 🙂

    • Somehow, I doubt I will see any more awards-they should be going to those who will appreciate them more than I.

  5. I thin that you and I would be great friends in real world. We share, in addition to being tall girls, a lot of the same opinions and thoughts.

  6. I join you on1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 (except we do not get HGTV here, we have several such programmes, such as ‘Relocation, Relocation Down Under’, or ‘A place in the sun – Home or Away’.
An elegant reply to a bloggers’ award!

  7. The awards thing always made me feel weird, too. There were several items that I’m with you on – the money thing is totally me. I don’t think it’s OCD…it’s just normal 😉 Enjoy your award anyway, you crotchety, kreativ blogger!
