Today I have been in tears with every news report of the Connecticut shootings. Babies murdered. By a young man with a history of mental illness and access to guns.
It is more than the mind can handle, thinking of the horror for everyone in involved.
My daughter turned to an old friend for help.
“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news,
my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’
To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster’, I remember my mother’s words,
and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers-
so many caring people in this world.” –Mister Rogers
Oh, Mister Rogers, there are scary things in the news today.
And this helps—- but only a little.

I am with you. I can’t stop crying.
And then my twelve-year-old stared at a news story on the computer monitor and said, “I keep trying, but I just can’t wrap my head around this.”
There was no other reaction to have.

Only a little. I’ve actively avoided the news because it grieves my soul and is my constant nightmare.
