April is the month of birthdays in our family. April first is my husband’s Aunt…she was 86 this year. April 11th is my brother, the 17th is my husband’s, the 21st is my younger granddaughter’s-she turns 1 this year! The 23rd is my oldest son’s-this is his 30th!!! the 27th is my older granddaughter’s-she turns 3 this year. And, on top of that, my daughter’s birthday is May 7.
I think I will be overloaded on birthday cake.
The years are going by so quickly. I know-every one says that. I am really feeling it this year for some reason. I suppose partly because I am soon to be the parent of a 30 year-old man. That just can’t be true!
Our children have all become wonderful adults. I am so proud of all three of them. My husband and I have always struggled financially, and he has felt guilty that we did not provide for them in the way he would have liked. They have told us many times that they never knew that we didn’t have much money, and when they felt a little jealous of their cousins who had al of the latest toys, they also realized that they felt they had happier lives than their cousins.
We are a close family. We get together as a family for each of the birthdays. Except for the granddaughters, who, for at least this year will be sharing a party/picnic. That may not last past this year. We get together for dinner, and often cake and gifts, as well. I like that our children are still willing to share these celebrations with us.
It has gotten a bit more difficult to buy gifts for everyone, however. I used to be able to buy clothes, but girlfriends and wives prefer to pick out the guys’ clothes, I think. All of our kids still enjoy the gifts. I think that is how I will know that I am officially old-when I am told “that’s okay, mom, you don’t have to get me anything”.
So far, so good.
You have a lot of Aries in your family and your husband and I share our birthday!!! We Rams are stubborn but loyal and strong as you probably know. What a fun month of celebration you’re having!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words on my blog. I have been reading your wonderful blog this morning and if you don’t mind I will be adding it to my blogroll on my blogs. Have a great day!
I will be giving thanks that I don’t live where Michelle Bachman is my Rep. The politicians here in Texas are bad enough but she really gives me the willies…. I am a lone Democrat in a County of Obnoxious, conservative rednecks.

I have read your last posts and enjoyed them. You are fortunate to live close to your children to be able to celebrate their birthdays. My parents lived in France and saw my daughters rarely, my father saw my elder daughter once and my mother saw my daughters maybe 4 or 5 times and that is all. I have two grand children, a one and a 3 years old, they live in Ohio but will move to Tennessee next fall, it will be closer. There is only my husband and I in Georgia and hardly any friends since we do not fit well here in Newt Gingrich county and do not attend church. Politic in the USA is getting weird.

We truly do enjoy our children being close by (with the exception of our daughter, who lives far away). We also live in a very conservative area, and have found like-minded people by joining the local democratic party. We were surprised to find there was one, and expected maybe two people! But we have found a good group of people working hard to change things. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to be able to discuss issues with people who are intelligent and open-minded!
