Perhaps we should go back to funding government by lottery.

There are only two types of people today.
1. Those who bought a lottery ticket,
2. Everyone else.
I am in the first camp.
Just in case you are living on Mars, and haven’t heard, here in the U.S., the Mega Millions jackpot is now at over 600 million dollars. That’s right. $600 MILLION!
It costs just $1 to buy a chance for the dream. And an awful lot of people are dreaming.
The chance of dying from being hit by an asteroid is more than actually winning this lottery. But still, someone has got to win…..why not throw in a few bucks toward hitting it big?
Husband and I are relatively educated folks. My oldest son is in a master’s program. Daughter’s s.o. is a math professor. Youngest son and daughter-in-law are both college educated. So guess which of us did not buy a ticket?
Yeah, Math professors have a way of taking all the fun out of a lottery.
And I don’t want you to think that I am unrealistic. I know that if when I win, I will probably have to share the jackpot with other winners. I’m okay with that. In fact, I would even be willing to share the jackpot with many other winners. I only hope for enough of a winning share to allow me to be financially secure and to be able to donate to important causes. Those causes include my kids, of course. I am not greedy.
Please, don’t hate me when I am rich!

I enjoyed reading all your back posts. I did not buy a ticket as I thought the odds were too great. Reading your post on your office brought back memories about my old office – it was OK but I am pleased that I am retired. I also have very bad knees with arthritis – the result of several injuries at work. I miss not being able to take long walks like I used to. I hope your weather is still warm. We just returned from spending 8 days in Nashville and it was quite warm there, like here too, in the 80s. I wrote a post on it and also because it is my 3rd year blog anniversary, but the post did not update in Reader – this is the 3rd time I have this problem.

Good to hear from you, Vagabonde! I have had problems commenting on many of the blogger sites lately. I will check for yours again. I have not been able to get the comments to save. We were to have a sunny warm day today but ended up with cool and gray. Oh, well, it is just the end of March, after all!

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with buying he occasional lottery ticket, although I’ve yet to do it. But I would like to see them change the system so that more people won lesser amounts. Say, 600 people won a million each. Then you’d feel like you had a fighting chance and more people would be happy.

I once heard someone refer to the lottery as a “stupidity tax”. That statement kind of influenced me to keep my $1 in my pocket. [shrugs]
